Uncover Your Hidden Power Within

Stories can be powerful tools that assist us in times of decision, change or apparent struggle.  I came across such a story that completely changed my outlook on things.  Rather, it helped me refocus.  I’d like to share that short story with you so that perhaps you too can gain further clarity for your journey and perhaps even a new sense of direction.

The Stone Cutter- A Chinese Fable

There was once a stone cutter who was dissatisfied with himself and with his position in life.

One day he passed a wealthy merchant’s house. Through the open gateway, he saw many fine possessions and important visitors. “How powerful that merchant must be!” thought the stone cutter. He became very envious and wished that he could be like the merchant.

To his great surprise, he suddenly became the merchant, enjoying more luxuries and power than he had ever imagined, but envied and detested by those less wealthy than himself. Soon a high official passed by, carried in a sedan chair, accompanied by attendants and escorted by soldiers beating gongs. Everyone, no matter how wealthy, had to bow low before the procession. “How powerful that official is!” he thought. “I wish that I could be a high official!”

Then he became the high official, carried everywhere in his embroidered sedan chair, feared and hated by the people all around. It was a hot summer day, so the official felt very uncomfortable in the sticky sedan chair. He looked up at the sun. It shone proudly in the sky, unaffected by his presence. “How powerful the sun is!” he thought. “I wish that I could be the sun!”

Then he became the sun, shining fiercely down on everyone, scorching the fields, cursed by the farmers and laborers. But a huge black cloud moved between him and the earth, so that his light could no longer shine on everything below. “How powerful that storm cloud is!” he thought. “I wish that I could be a cloud!”

Then he became the cloud, flooding the fields and villages, shouted at by everyone. But soon he found that he was being pushed away by some great force, and realized that it was the wind. “How powerful it is!” he thought. “I wish that I could be the wind!”

Then he became the wind, blowing tiles off the roofs of houses, uprooting trees, feared and hated by all below him. But after a while, he ran up against something that would not move, no matter how forcefully he blew against it – a huge, towering rock. “How powerful that rock is!” he thought. “I wish that I could be a rock!”

Then he became the rock, more powerful than anything else on earth. But as he stood there, he heard the sound of a hammer pounding a chisel into the hard surface, and felt himself being changed. “What could be more powerful than I, the rock?” he thought.

He looked down and saw far below him the figure of a stone cutter.

Why Books Seminars Coaching Programs and Mentoring Just Don’t Work

22 Nov

Please click on the play symbol above to listen or continue to read…

Have you spent countless hours reading books, attending seminars, participating in coaching and mentoring programs?  Have you depleted your life savings in the hopes of realizing real personal change or financial freedom?  Do you get an overwhelming sensation to buy everything that is positioned to make you money or “change your life”?  Hold on to your credit card until you read this.

I can’t count how many hours I’ve spent or how much money I’ve invested in these and many other resources.  Every day I ask myself what has come from all of my time and money.  I look for the results.

As I reflect, I see that I have made numerous wonderful changes in my life.  You may find the same.  There was a time that I couldn’t say this but now I am healthy, I have a great relationship with my wife, children and family, I am much more spiritual and I’ve continuously increased my net worth.

Still No Significant Results?

Even still, as I look back on all of the stuff I have learned there are still a wide variety of areas, including some of the aforementioned that I have not reached my true potential.  What about you?

You would think that with all of the information we’ve learned from the books, mentors and coaching programs that taking action would start to come so easy.  Yet it doesn’t.

I have found that there are so many things that I have failed to implement.  Even when I know that it will generate better results.

Are you in the same situation?  Do you feel the same way?

It’s obvious to me now that no matter how much time or money we spend, if we are not focused on taking action on the appropriate things, we will continue to fail to hit the mark.

I guess it can be summed up in an all too often spoken cliché.  “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”.

You Already Have the Answers

You know, I’ve actually met with many so-called “gurus”, on various subjects.  My conclusion after one-on-one discussions, research and customer feedback is that they truly provide their “systems” of success in all of their material.  And I have learned that many of them share the same frustration.  Their biggest disappointment is that they put so much time and effort providing people with the best possible answers yet so many fail to take action, so many never follow through.

Many times I fall into this category.  I fail to take action.  I fail to follow through.  Do you?

You see, we have been led to water…we are being led to water, but we are choosing not to drink.  Why?

I can think of a handful of reasons some of which include…

I’m certain that if you’ve spent as much time as I have in “buy and study” mode, you have well enough information to make any change in your life and make your dreams come true.

So what is it going to take for us to finally wake up?  When are we going to start drinking from the water of abundance?

You May Have Too Many “Irons on the Fire”

Through careful self examination, you may find that perhaps you haven’t given yourself enough credit.  Maybe you have been drinking water.  The problem is that perhaps you’ve been drinking little sips from a bunch of different wells.

Perhaps you have failed to realize that “one thing” that you are truly purposeful and passionate about.  As such, every time a new “idea” comes along you shift your energy and attention.  I know this is my challenge.

How many “projects” have you left undone?  Or like my cousin puts it…How many irons in the fire do you have?

I have a bunch.  Yet none yield me any significant, life changing results.

It’s Not the “How”, It’s the “What”

So what’s the bottom line here?  Why don’t seminars, books, coaching and mentors work?  Simply because we are looking outside for the answer.  We are expecting to find the answers outside of ourselves.

You see, you’ve spent most of your time looking for the “how”.  I’ll tell you what.  After carefully evaluating all of the information I’ve learned, it’s pretty much all of the same message.  The difference is the delivery or the twist.  Find which “how” resonates with you most and then move on.

Then spend most of your time looking for the “what”.  This is the key.  Also, one of the great things in identifying your what is that it will also give you feedback into your “why”.

We must instead look inside for the answer.  Identify our hearts desire and chart a straight course to that desire.  Once on the course, we must have the discipline to fend off all other distractions and use our will to focus on the one thing that matters most.

Stay the Course and Realize Your Greatest Dreams

Put your best iron in the fire; your best “what”.

Take some time right now and ask yourself?

  • What really wakes me up in the morning and drives me?
  • When I am at my best, what is it that I am doing?
  • What project excites me the most?
  • Does it have the potential to yield me the happiness I am seeking?
  • Where does the greatest opportunity lie?

Listen to your heart.  Identify the answers of your self discovery and you are well on your way.  Then work up a burning desire to see that task through to the finish.  At the same time, develop the belief and faith in yourself and your project by continuing to focus on your vision and clarifying your ideal life.

Do this, and when you’ve drank enough water, marvelous things will happen!

You’ve been led to the water…Now it’s time to drink!

Have a great day of discovery!

I’ll Do It My Way

12 Apr

Happy Cliché Monday to you!  I hope you had a wonderful, productive weekend!

Please click on the play button above to listen to this post or continue to read below…

Last week I shared my thoughts on the subject of the cliché “It’s Just Not My Thing”.  In a nutshell, I discussed how although many people “want” and realize the need for change in their personal results, be it…relationships, finances, career, etc., most people are reluctant to try new activities because they feel that “it’s just not them”.

In the article, I went on to discuss that in order to see the new results that you want in your life, you need to move from where you currently are (mentally, physically, emotionally), to where you need to be.

In order to accomplish this, you need to entertain and apply new habits, patters, behaviors that are currently not part of your daily activity and those that you currently do not see as things that you like or enjoy, or things that are “just not you”.

So today, I wanted to follow up with a similar Cliché that I hear all of the time.  I think that it is the big sister of “it’s just not my thing!”  And that phrase is “I’ll Do It My Way”.

When I hear this, three very close and dear people come to mind.  These three people many times have expressed dissatisfaction in some area of their results in some form or another.  They have made mention of their need for new health habits, physical fitness, careers, business strategies, etc.

They have all gotten really excited about the upcoming journey on their plan for their “new life”.  They talk about the new clothes that they are going to wear as a result of losing weight, the meals they are going to eat, the things they are going to buy, the services they are going to provide…

Naturally, in my excitement, I can’t help but to offer my assistance and maintain that I will help them be accountable and push them to their goals.  I’ve actually gone as far as providing individual assignments and specific dates for their attainment and timelines to provide positive feedback.  After all, that is what excites me most, helping others realize new heights in their results.

BAM!  In an instant, an immediate backlash…”NO!  I don’t need your help!  I have to go at my own pace.  I’ll Do It My Way!”

Ask yourself…Do I backlash against “the push” from others?  Do I fight getting out of my comfort zone?  I am a victim of “my own way” in any areas of my life?  Do I depend on doing it “my way” and end up finding the same results?  Am I in the same place (financially, spiritually, emotionally…) that I was five years ago?  If the answer to ANY of these questions is “Yes”…

Hello!?!  Wake up!  Stop kidding yourselves!  Don’t you realize that all of your current results are because you have already done it “your way”?  Don’t kid yourself.  If you continue to do it “Your Way” you will continue to see the same exact results over and over again.

Then what?  Insanity…doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result!

And by the way…don’t fool yourself into thinking that everything in your life is exactly the way you want it to be.  Don’t convince yourself that everything is already perfect and that taking on an additional task or habit is optional or just something for people who are missing something in their life.

If you think or feel this way, then you have become complacent.  You have settled.  You have stopped challenging yourself.  You are no longer growing.

Also, think about this…ask yourself this question…if money, time and resources were not an issue, and you absolutely knew, with complete certainty, that you could have anything, I mean anything that you want, would you have the exact same life that you have now?

I didn’t think so.  So maybe there is a challenge still out there worthy of your time and effort.

Okay, so I digressed a little bit…

Take a look at this picture and digest it for a minute.  This is what I came up with to illustrate what I think the problem is with the “I’ll do it my way” attitude.

In the bottom left cloud you can see “Your Way”… this is your paradigm…or your normal behaviors, habits, thoughts, ideas, actions…this cloud points directly to the circle on the right which equates to “Your Results”.

“Your Way” can only provide you with “Your Results”.

Notice, at the same time, you will also see that “Your Way” cannot provide you with what you want…or your “New Results” (demonstrated as the X’ed out arrow in red).

The only way to attain “New Results” is to change from “Your Way” to “The Way”.

You see, results are always the effect.  In order to change the effect, you MUST change the cause or “Your Way”.  You must have different inputs to acquire or achieve different outputs.  You must sow what you wish to reap.

I think you and I can both agree that a farmer would be absolutely crazy if he continued to plant corn seed and actually expected to harvest apples.

In essence, by expecting new results in your life while continuing to do it “Your Way”, you are expecting apples when planting corn seed.

So I guess the natural question would be…how do you move from “Your Way” to “The Way”?

  1. First, determine your desired results (in any area…Health, Wealth, Spirituality, Relationships, etc.)
  2. Write them down in exact detail (What, when, why)…the “how” will come in a bit.
  3. Find a person who has the results that you desire
  4. Study them, talk with them, follow them, examine what they do or did to acquire the results they have, ask them for their help, subscribe to their coaching program (this will be your “How” or “The Way”)
  5. Find supporting material (books, magazines, videos, etc.)  Study that too!
  6. Then, and most importantly…APPLY what you have learned!  Over and over!

Initially, the ideas and concepts, the behaviors and actions may actually seem simple.  You may find that all you need to do to get started is to…read for 15 minutes a day, start walking everyday for ten minutes, stop drinking soda, start a blog, make a video, document a hobby, write a journal, make an extra sale, make a follow up call to a customer, say a prayer…

But trust me, no matter how simple the task, the application will be difficult.  Why?  Simply because those action items are not part of your normal routine.  You are not in the habit of doing those things.

So when you hit that defining moment…after the initial excitement of the idea has died…after the feeling that nothing can stop you “this time” has subsided…when the “mental demons” make their way back into your life and try to suck you back to “Your Way”…

…when you have reached what I refer to as “The 1 second to Success”, the 1 second it will take you to either make the decision and commit to your desired path…or to fall back on old habits…break through!  Make it happen!  Fight through it.  Fight your old conditioning.  Fight your old habits.  Fight your old paradigm.  Fight “Your Way!”, and Just do it, NOW!

Once you do that, you will be on your way to a new and marvelous change.   A personal change.  A change in your results.  A change in your confidence.

And the great news…it won’t be long before the new and difficult action items become your habits…you won’t have to “think” about doing them any more.  They will become a normal part of your every day behavior.

So go out and challenge “your way” today.  Seek the results that you truly desire.  Align your habits with those results.  Live the life you truly want!

And don’t forget to comment on your thoughts and or experiences with the subject.  I love to hear your feedback.

Thank you.

Have a great day!

Andrew.

P.S.  Expert studies show that it only takes 21 days for something to become a habit.  Are you willing to put in 21 days to see the positive change in your life that you seek?

Tiger Woods Wins the Masters

11 Apr

Listen to this post by clicking the play button above or contine on and read below…

Is this what the headlines will read tomorrow?  Will Tiger make an incredible comeback to make up the difference of 4 strokes and pull ahead?

I don’t really think that it matters.  I think that what matters is that there is a great lesson to be learned from Tiger’s performance this week at Augusta, Georgia.

Just five months ago, Tiger was the focus of media scrutiny for his “indiscretions” as he referred to them.  He was the focus of just about every possible media channel…television, online, newspaper, magazines, etc…

Did he deserve it? Yes…No…Maybe…who am I to judge.  And to be honest, who really cares.  How does Tiger’s life have any significance on yours or mine?  It doesn’t.  It just gives us another opportunity to do what most people do too much of…talk about others.

So take off your judgment hat and sit back for a moment to think about this…

Since his “personal issue”, Tiger has endured 5 months of distraction.  5 months without the true comfort of his family.  5 months of judgment.  5 months of the media circus.  5 months without playing in a professional tournament.  5 months of “therapy”.    5 months of anxiety.  5 months of not being able to do what he truly loves…

No, not that!  I meant golf.

Yet, here he stands, on the final day of the greatest golf major, The Masters, only 4 strokes behind the leader.

What does that indicate?  What meaning does this have?  What can we learn?  To me there are many things…

A few initial words that come to mind that exemplify Tiger’s overall performance might include…pride, tenacity, confidence, persistence, will power, concentration, heart…and many others…

His performance is a great indication of a person with a strong character and a great attitude.  It shows how a great champion emerges as a result of years and years of mental, physical and spiritual training…especially when facing their finest challenge…

It is an indication to me that your today doesn’t have to be your yesterday…that letting go of your past is a key to creating a better future.

How many of us would have been able to bounce back from such a major blow in our lives?  How many would maintain our peak performance at the helm of what appears to be complete and utter disaster?

I would probably guess not many.

You see the “great ones” are just like you and me…they too make mistakes…they too have major “failures”…and they too are only human…

The one major difference is that they are able to bounce back from major failure and experience their greatest victory ever…

So win or lose The Masters…I don’t think it matters…I think what matters is that Tiger won himself back…he won his own heart back…he won his pride back…

…and most importantly, you and I won a great lesson….

That lesson…learn from the mistakes of others.  Learn from their triumphs.  Focus on the lessons and avoid the same mistakes.

Stay strong in your darkest hour.  Continue on your correct path.  You too have what it takes to overcome your most difficult obstacles and come out on top…to emerge victorious!

Congratulations…you are a Champion!

Have a great day!

Andrew.
